Microsoft excel is an indispensable software application by Microsoft office suite, that is powerful enough to accomplish maximum task on electronic spreadsheet. Sometimes, while working on the excel sheet the data gets corrupted due to many common reason such as software failure, hardware failure, user fault, etc. Hence, in such cases you will repair your data with the help of below mentioned manual methods.
Method 1: With the help of Inbuilt Open and Repair Tool. Follow the steps below and repair your corrupted excel file(s).
Step 1: First, open a blank Excel sheet.
Step 2: Go to Open.
Step 3: Choose the file which you want to repair and open file by choosing Open and Repair from the drop-down list under Open.
Step 4: Now, click on Yes button to confirm the selection.
Method 2: Use Microsoft Office Tool:
Step 1: Click on Start menu, choose All Programs.
Step 2: Select there Microsoft Office.
Step 3: Select Microsoft Office Tools -> Microsoft Office Application Recovery.
Step 4: A new dialog box open with the name of Microsoft Office Application Recovery and choose the Microsoft Office Excel.
Step 5: Then click on Recover Application, the recovery process will take few minutes. Then respond to the Send Report to Microsoft prompt. After this close the excel sheet and restart it to check the repaired data.
Note: Use this method, if the corruption occurs while opening the excel sheet and do not save the file.
Step 1: Open the excel sheet and click on File to select Open.
Step 2: Search and select the desired file, which you want to repair.
Step 3: Click on Yes to reopen the file.
Method 4: Setting the calculation method to manual
Step 1: Open a new excel sheet.
Step 2: From the Tools menu, select Options and click on the Calculation.
Note: In Excel 2007, click on the Office button -> Excel and select Formulas
Step 3: In the Calculation section, click on Manual.
Step 4: Now, click OK and try to open the corrupted excel file.
Method 5: With the help of SYLK (Symbolic Link) format. It is the best method to filter and select the corrupted files.
Step 1: Open the excel sheet. Go to File menu and choose Save As.
Note: In Excel 2007, click the Office button to select the Save As.
Step 2: From the Save As Type, choose from SYLK (Symbolic Link) (*.slk).
Step 3: Enter a new name for the active sheet and then, click on Save button.
Note: If there is only one sheet, then this step is unnecessary.
Step 4: If you have multiple sheets then excel will ask you, if you want to perform further or not. Then, click OK.
Step 5: Again, you will see a message; “If Excel prompts you with a warning that the workbook might contain features that aren’t compatible with the SYLK format”. Then, click on Yes button.
Step 6: Now click on File tab -> Exit.
Step 7: You will receive a message “If you receive a message that asks you to save the changes that you made”, click on Yes.
Step 8: Again, open the excel sheet and click on File -> Open.
Step 9: Find the “Filename.slk” file which you’ve saved earlier. Now, select it and click on Open.
Step 10: Under the File Types list, select the All files or SYLK Files to see the .slk files.
Step 11: Now, again click on File -> Save As. In the Save as type, select the Excel Workbook.
Step 12: Now, type the new name to create a copy of the excel sheet in the File name box. Click on Save.
Method 6: Using Macro to extract the data from corrupted file(s).
Step 1: First, copy the below macro code and paste it in a module sheet:

Step 2: Insert a new worksheet, right click on the sheet and rename it ChartData.
Step 3: Now, select the chart which you want to extract.
Note: The chart can be embedded on a worksheet or on a separate chart sheet.
Step 4: Run the GetChartValuesmacro. The data from the chart is put on the ChartData worksheet.
Other Important Manual Methods:
Method 7: Try to repair the excel file by opening it in the WordPad, Word, or OpenOffice Calc. WordPad will convert everything to text and hence, will recover the VBA procedures (macros).
Note: Before using this method, install the Microsoft Office Excel converter. This method not repairs the formulas.
Method 8: Due to problem in networks, server or any other error restrict the file to not open at that place. In such case move your file(s) to another folder, drive or any other place.
Method 9: Delete the contents of the Temp Directory, which is located in C:\Windows\Temp directory and then restart your computer to check the file.
Method 10: Download Microsoft Excel Viewer, which may be able to open the file and may copy the cells and paste them into a new excel sheet.
